Hooray!!! It’s party night at DFS with mulled wine and mince pies galore!
Come and join us for our ultra short AGM: you’re very welcome. You’ll hear a brief account of all the wonderful things the Society has been up to this past year and the even more wonderful things we have planned for 2027. At DFS we do more than show films!
We plan for our AGM to begin at 8pm and beover by 8.15 Then our more than wonderful film showing. A love story but also a film about reindeer, (Christmas is coming) not the Rudolph type, but real reindeer and a real world that is still hanging in there, midst all the threats
of the 21st century.

Director Sarah Margarethe Oskai, Saami and Norwegian with English subtitles. 1hr 37mns.
The Tundra Within Me
When artist Lena returns from Oslo to make an artwork based on the lives of female reindeer herders in her native Saami community, she is spurned, misunderstood and denied access by the very women she wants to engage with. You cannot just turn up and hope to be treated as “an artist in residence” if you, yourself were once a herder, but you broke with your community, broke with tradition and sold your father’s herd then made off to the big city.
The Tundra Within Me is a bold attempt at unravelling a maze of social and cultural entanglements within a narrative that is at heart, a love story. It’s a love story between a woman and a man and a love story about a people, their animals and the environment they belong to, shrinking before their eyes.
Expect to be challenged and moved. You won’t be disappointed.
